The summer haze has been making way for cooler mornings lately, gently opening the door to my favorite season. With that, Chelsea and I are looking both backward and forward, as we wish you a very happy… Fine Line Friday!
Looking back…
At some point of the summer, one of these newsletters typically shares some inside intel about one of the season’s blockbuster films. Somehow I missed that this time, so instead I thought I’d share some insight on one of my favorite summer movies ever—Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. It turns out that early screenings of this film were not positive, and that its success was largely due to the most dreaded words ever heard by an editor: “Fix it in post.”
BTW, while there was never a Ferris Bueller sequel, Matthew Broderick and his character did receive a revival of sorts in the form of a very well-produced 2012 Super Bowl spot.
And in the looking forward category…
Tom Hanks and Robert Zemeckis have reunited (Forrest Gump, Castaway) for another film! Mark your calendar for November 15, because Here is where you’ll want to be. This video gives you a glimpse at the concept and how cutting-edge technology brings it to life. But if you’d just like a look at the trailer, be warned—you might want to have a tissue or two handy. I sure did.
Perhaps this summer’s biggest blockbuster wasn’t a movie at all, but the 2024 Paris Olympics. And it was one of Hollywood’s biggest stars who stole the show at the closing ceremony. If you enjoyed Tom Cruise’s action-packed “handover” to the 2028 Summer Games in LA, you might also enjoy a look behind-the-scenes at how it came together.
And speaking of behind-the-scenes at the Olympics…
Those of you who follow Fine Line on social know that I spent a significant part of my summer working with NBC on their Olympic coverage for E! and CNBC. While the job is a solid three-week grind, it’s also a thrill to work with the most talented people in sports on such a huge production. Between studio hits, I grabbed a bit of video… from control rooms to cafeterias to break dancing in the hall… and Fine Line’s social media guru put it together in a neat little 1-minute package (thanks, Jack) for you to enjoy.
Before I go, Chelsea and I are happy to announce that Fine Line launched an updated and upgraded website this summer! It features new content and categories. I hope you’ll give it a visit, or if you’d prefer a virtual tour, Jack has your back again, with a video he created to feature a few of the site’s highlights.
And with that, I’m off to enjoy some of this beautiful end-of-summer weather. I hope you get to do the same, and that until next time, you keep… Feeling Fine!
